Out of sequence, I am now including Tom’s recent letter to reach out to you, the BLOG readers. Here it is:
Dear Friends,
As I write this from the confines of a prison yard, my spirit soars over the razor-wire fence to connect with you. We meet from many different backgrounds and cultures, but beyond it all we are truly One.
Kathleen has been faithfully posting my essays and excerpts of my letters from the years of my incarceration. I’m deeply grateful for this.
I hope that you will find this to be a resting place, a place where we can freely share our innermost thoughts and feelings. Perhaps you can add your unique thoughts and feelings to the mix. How delightful it will be to share at a deeper level of our being and to enrich each other in the process.
As a teacher’s aide here, I have been helping inmates to get their GED diplomas, and recently a student asked me a thoughtful question that I would like to ask you –
“What would you write if you knew ahead of time that it was your last message?”
What would you say? What stories would you tell? What points would you want to get across?
As we ask these questions at deeper and deeper levels, it calls for us to face our legacy. What do we want to leave behind for generations to come? Winter comes to every one of us sooner or later. And every spring, the garden is reborn. By the time we leave this eartly plane the real question is,
“What have we done to leave our garden better for someone else’s spring?”
If you will post your answers, we can explore this together. Let’s begin a dialogue and share a bit of our soul.
A BLOG site is important if it sparks us to be more than we already are. If in some small way, Beyond the Wall becomes a part of the consciousness of your life, then our journey together will have been wildly successful.
My prayer is that each message be a point of light. My deepest hope and intention is that in these messages that we share together we have had a soul encounter.
With Love,
Tom
